“Protecting Peace and Democracy with Mahatma Gandhi in Mind”
Wednesday, October 8, 2025
L.R. Wilson Concert Hall, 6:00- 7:30 p.m., followed by reception

As Albert Einstein wrote in 1946, “The unleashed power of the atom has changed everything except our thinking. Thus, we are drifting toward catastrophe beyond conception. We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if mankind is to survive.” Following an analysis of the crisis in which we are drifting toward catastrophe, the question is posed, “What is to be done?” Rejecting the proposals of Lenin, we can, instead, promote actions of nonviolence as Mahatma Gandhi proposed.

Dr. David Adams is a peace activist, scientist, writer, and journalist. At UNESCO, he worked on the Culture of Peace initiative that eventually led to the International Year for the Culture of Peace. Since his retirement from UNESCO in 2001, he has continued to devote his energies to the global movement for a culture of peace. He is the coordinator of the Culture of Peace News Network and publishes a monthly bulletin and blog.

Funded by our community, this Lecture is free and open to the public. All are welcome.
